King Abdullah Sports City
The exclusive sports complex King Abdullah Sports City was constructed between autumn 2011 and January 2013 in the coastal town of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.
BAM Sports GmbH, the Belgian construction company BESIX and the Saudi-Arabian Al Muhaidib Group were responsible for the turnkey planning and implementation of the €380 million project. The King Abdullah Sports City was designed by OVE ARUP in London.
The centrepiece of the sports complex, which is unique in the region, is the large football stadium with seating for 60,000 spectators, including the Saudi-Arabian royal family who have numerous luxurious suites at their disposal.
Besides the stadium, the complex also includes a mosque, a state-of-the-art sports hall for over 10,000 spectators, an athletics stadium, and other outdoor sports facilities such as tennis courts and football training grounds.
